Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information Notegral (“the app”, “we”) processes and how. It is written to reflect how the app actually works.

1. Local-first by default

Your notes, collections, tags and version history are stored primarily in your own browser using IndexedDB, on your device. If you never sign in, no note content leaves your device except when you explicitly use an AI feature (see section 4) or export/share a note yourself.

2. Optional account & cloud sync

If you choose to sign in with Google, we create an account keyed to your Google email address so your notes can sync across your devices. When sync is enabled we store, in our database (hosted with our infrastructure provider), the content you create: note titles and bodies, tags, collections, membership and ordering, timestamps, and deletion markers. We receive your email address and basic profile information from Google solely to identify your account. We do not receive your Google password.

3. What we do not do

We do not sell your data, and we do not use your note content for advertising. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies (see the Cookie Notice).

4. AI features

When you use a study tool (for example flashcards, a quiz, or an AI editing tool), the relevant note text is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic's Claude) to generate the result. That text is processed to return a response. If no AI provider is configured, AI features are disabled and no such data is sent.

Ask Iffy, the in-app helper, is different: it sends only your question and the app's own public handbook text, never your notes. Help questions are answered through free AI tiers (Google's Gemini, falling back to Anthropic's Claude), and Google's free tier may use the prompts it receives to improve its own services. Since those prompts contain only your question about how to use the app, nothing personal or note-related is ever included.

Reading a document you have kept.A PDF that contains real text (most bills, statements and tickets) is read by the app itself, in your browser: its words go straight into your note and no part of the file is sent anywhere. A photograph of a page, and a PDF that is only a picture of one, has no text to take, so that page image is sent over an encrypted connection to Anthropic's Claude to be transcribed. Under Anthropic's commercial terms that content is not used to train models and is deleted on their side within 30 days. We keep no copy of the page beyond the file you stored with us and the note the text lands in. This applies to personal paperwork exactly as it does to anything else: we do not ask you to avoid keeping documents that matter, we tell you what happens to them.

5. Data location & retention

Synced data is kept while your account exists, and only while it exists. You can delete individual notes at any time (which propagates the deletion to the cloud), and you can delete your whole account yourself, in the app: open Settings, then Delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent. Every note, collection, file, practice record and your plan is erased from our database and file storage the moment you confirm, along with the app's data on your device. We keep no copy, and there is no waiting period. Any active subscription is cancelled as part of the same step. 6. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete your personal data. You can export and delete without asking us: Full backup, in Settings, downloads everything you have created, uploaded files included, as one archive (offered again before you delete your account), and Settings, then Delete account, erases everything at once. 7. Changes

We may update this policy; the effective date above reflects the current version.
